Long motor wiring

I use the inverter with multiple motors connected to it.
The Instruction Manual instructs not to use a wire longer than 500 m. What happens if the wiring length is longer than 500 m?
Why must this length not be exceeded?
Category :

Answer

When you use a long wire between the inverter and motor, pay attention to the following:
1. Since the voltage supplied to the motor terminal is reduced due to voltage drop over the wire, torque may become insufficient. (The motor may overheat due to increase of current.)

2. When the wire is long, discharging current (leakage current) due to stray capacitance may trigger the overcurrent protection function.

3. For a 400 V inverter, microsurge may deteriorate the motor insulation.

Concerning the above cautions, the system may not be necessarily affected by these factors when the wiring length exceeds 500 m. However, inverter operation can be affected and you need to take them into consideration.
