Inst tripping current value of AC/DC common breaker
Why is the instantaneous tripping current value of AC/DC common type circuit breaker different between AC and DC?
Answer
At time-delay tripping zone, it operates with bimetal, therefore the characteristics of AC
and DC should be same if the effective values of them are same. However, at instantaneous tripping zone, it operates with electromagnetic tripping device. Since the electromagnetic tripping characteristic is proportional to the peak value of the energizing current, the instantaneous tripping current value of AC and DC is approximately 1: √ 2 and the DC becomes larger.
